Camped here three times during the summer. Used as a base camp to visit near by mining towns, camped with family, and went once by myself while crossing the Rocky Mountain watershed divide to Colorado Springs, Colorado headed to the Air Force Academy. Great location near a stream or further in near the mountain valley. Bring your own wood, purchase at Rico, Delores, or Cortez. You can sometimes purchase cords of wood when registering. Drink plenty of water to prevent altitude sickness.
Rustic, right up against the forest. Beautiful stream. Utilities. We try to get here every time we are nearby.
Convienient location right on the San Juan Skyway about 20-30 minutes south of Telluride. Some road noise but quiet at night. Elevation 9,000'+. Some sites are wooded, others more open and sunny. Especially clean and non-smelly vault toilets. Water spigots with "drinking" water. Creek flows right by campground. Camp host sells firewood. No problems with bears or other animals.
Basic campground. You can hear cars driving past on the highway, so it's not like you're completely secluded. Also wish there was a marked trail to the river. I had to walk back to the campground entrance to touch the water.
